Please Join Us For
~Grandparents and Parents Night~

Wednesday, May 31st ~ 5:00-6:30pm at Edna Libby School

Edna Libby School is trying something new this year for our Grandparents.  Often Grandparents have to divide their time among more than one grandchild during our events.  Instead of doing a program during the day for our grandparents, we are inviting them to join us, along with other family members who are interested, in a STEM Night at Edna Libby.  STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.  We will have stations set up around the school for students and family members to make items and do experiments.  This is a hands-on night of fun activities.

Spring has sprung!  The green grass and budding trees have certainly reminded all of us how beautiful the weather in New England can be.  Since our last newsletter, our schools have been busy.  The month of April started off with the 4th grade band concert on April 4th. During the month both schools had Count ME In and PBIS assemblies awarding students with perfect attendance awards. Our fifth grade parents visited the BEMS for parent information night on April 25th.  Standish PTO organized a Family Fun Night at George E. Jack with comedian Randy Judkins on April 28th.

May 3rd we had Grandparent day at George E. Jack.  Edna Libby will be hosting Grandparents day on June 1st from 5:00 - 6:30 pm.  You will find the notices in your child’s backpack if you have not already seen it.The Edna Libby spring concert with the kindergarten and second grade students was May 5th.  Mr. Schnell, our music teacher, has worked hard with the students in these grade levels.  His dedicated work was evident when the children displayed their talent and singing abilities during their shows. Thank you, Mr. Schnell! Students at Edna Libby and George E. Jack School will participate in NWEA Standardize assessment during the months of April and May.  Grades 3-8 participated in MEA’s.

The Kindergarten registration is well underway.  SAD #6 offers an open enrollment for all incoming Kindergarten students during the month of March. If you reside in Standish, and have a Kindergarten student that needs to be registered and you have not done so already, please call the registrar’s office at 929-9149 as soon as possible to complete the process.

Since warm weather will soon be arriving, this is a good time to ask parents for their help in appropriate attire for school.  Shirts which expose the midriff, chest or bare shoulders are not allowed.  No halter tops, tube tops or spaghetti straps are to be worn without a cover-up.  Shorts and skirts must be fingertip length when arms are at the child's side.  Beachwear is not permitted.  Hats are to be removed in the building.  Clothing suggesting alcoholic beverages, tobacco or inappropriate messages should not be worn at school.  Proper footwear is essential for physical education classes and playground play.  For safety reasons, flip flops are not allowed, particularly for recess and physical education class.  We would also like to remind parents and students at this time that wood/metal baseball bats, hard balls, and skateboards are not allowed on school grounds for safety reasons.  Students are encouraged to leave personal property at home.

Students are allowed and encouraged to apply before school and may bring insect repellent and sunscreen for their own use. Both Edna Libby and George E. Jack students will have an outdoor field day. This typically happens in June, and we will have many more details to follow.  Any parent interesting in volunteering during this fun filled event, please let your child's teacher know.
